Seven of my friends were engaged in 2007 (5 of them in December alone). I'm deathly afraid of being asked to become a bridesmaid because I have heard so many horror stories about the experience.
Your article made me giggle and I realized that being a bridesmaid isn't all that bad. I mean, you do get to go to that reception afterwards - with an open bar, right?

Good article, but I think you got a little off topic. Not that I mind, but wasn't the article supposed to be about the movie, and not necessarily your own personal experiences (however comical they were)?

college gal: The best advice I can give is, you know your friends - learn how to say "no". If they ask you to be a bridesmaid (one or all seven), think about your friendship and how said bride handles stress.
If you know she's not good at it, or if she's got huge wedding plans, consider saying no if you don't think you can handle it.
However, if you have a relatively easy-going bride, being a bridesmaid can be a lot of fun.
Your article reminds me why we did an immediate family only wedding on a big rock beside the St. Vrain River in Rocky Mountain National Park. Worst thing I had to worry about was the chance of rain, and my sisters (bridesmaids) wore semi-formal dresses that actually can(and have been) worn again.
I have one bridesmaid dress in my closet, and it has a hairy, ankle length cape (long threads in different shades of silver gave the hairy appearance) Her mom made the dress and put a dowel at the bottom of the cape to keep it 'flared', so it banged into the back of my feet all night. It was a pain to dance in too.
You did at least get to have some liquor, right?
I think my friends had it right when we went to Vegas a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, if I do anything like that I'll be disowned.
