Yes, Diamondeye1002, it was meant as joke. I'm glad you got it.

I thought the article was wonderful. I was reading the comments posted by readers after it and was stunned by all the negative feedback. Are these people for real? They really thought you were serious? Just wow. I do have to say that you missed one in Santa Claus is Coming to Town. They are telling kids to keep their door unlocked so he can sneak in, etc. Ewww. It's actually kind of creepy to watch now. And have you SEEN Pepe Le Pew cartoons (I know, not Chritmas specials) since you've "matured"? Can you say crazy STALKER? :) Merry Christmas!

Thanks much for the kind words, goaliergr8. Dave Barry has written entire columns about the Humor Impaired, and I'm grateful you're not among their number.

MB, this is a great article. You are not alone in your realization that our holiday favorites aren't exactly as we remembered them. Rudolf always concerned me, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I realized that Charlie Brown was clinically depressed. This year I began to worry about Frosty the Snowman luring young girls to hop a train with him to the "North Pole". Where is that "To Catch a Predator" guy when you need him?

I loved the article. The Rudolph special completely ruined the image of the Abominable Snowman as a tough guy. By the end of it, I knew his acting career in pictures was almost over, save one final role: dying at the hands of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

As for the Sit-n-Spin, I feel your pain. I think we were all ripped off as children.

In the spirit, I hought I'd dig out some some bits from may all-too-briefly syndicated That TV Guy column:

8 p.m. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”
How did the Grinch steal Christmas? He works for Halliburton. WB.

8 p.m. “A Charlie Brown Christmas”
The round headed kid picks out a lame tree and then everybody pretends it’s ok. Soon to be re-released as “Charlie Brown’s Co-Dependent Kwaanza.” ABC

8 p.m. “Rudolph, the Red-Nose Reindeer”
A reindeer with a birth defect is shunned by the community until his abilities are deemed worthy of exploitation. CBS.

8 p.m. “Frosty the Snowman”
A snow man comes to life before a group of school kids. And nobody thinks to adjust their Ritalin dosage. CBS.

“6 p.m. “The Little Drummer Boy”
A little boy is orphaned. Then cruelly exploited. But he convinces himself that playing a drum for a crying infant is going to make everything better. Fox Family Channel.

8 p.m. “Santa Claus is Comin‘ to Town”
The '70s stop-motion classic tells the story of a young boy who grew up to bring gifts and cheer to the world, building an arctic empire on kickbacks from the toy industry. ABC.

I had never thought much about looking at Christmas Specials from such a different perspective. I enjoyed the ride, albeit it brought back memories of when I discovered my cherished collection of "Mother GoosesNursery Rhymes" were in reality a collection of short horror tales.

I'm glad to read that your MSNBC Christmas Special article was a joke.

Because there are a lot of people who are just like that - you may recall the movement to de-violence Bugs Bunny cartoons. People who can't watch Christmas specials for fear of worrying about head trauma to the characters are probably just never going to have an orgasm in their lives.

Wow. Not only are these people Humor-Impaired, they're also Perspective-Impaired. And they're also terrible amateur psychologists.
