I like how you snuck in your first "my husband" reference. :-)

Drew Carey, America’s Bowling Partner, comes at you with a “spay or neuter”? You cross your legs.

Hilarious.

Great column. At first, I was hesitant about Carey's new gig, but I think I'll give him a chance now.

“The Price Is Right” is America".

How very true. It embodies in half an hour the spirit of the american dream: that with a little bit of luck, but also with the necessary wits and skill, you can get anything you want.

They tried to make a "latin" version of the Price is Right here in Mexico. As it turns out, we mexicans apparently DON'T beieve in the american dream, for it never catched on and the program was cancelled (I think we rely just on the luck part, because the national lottery is quite a big thing down here).

Anon-- I had no idea they spelled the name of the site wrong! I shall round up the usual suspects. But I appreciate that you took the extra search time to find us here in the Tasting Room. Hope you return!

Drew's glasses were originally issued to him in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He hasn't really ever "needed" them — offstage he wore wire-rims or contacts, and now he's had LASIK so he doesn't need glasses at all.

It's no secret that I'm a huge "TPIR" fan (Check Game: write a check for any amount, if the total of the offered prize's value and the check amount is between $5,000 and $6,000 you win, and I did not have to look that up), and as such I think Carey as host is perfect, and not because I'm also a Drew Carey fan. Drew appeals to every demographic: housewives see him as cute in a non-threatening way; old ladies think he's the neighbor boy down the street who's so polite; college students and people my age would really like to have a beer or 12 with him.

I just wonder how much CBS will change the design of the show. Just as you couldn't have a host that looked like Bob Barker without reminding you of Bob Barker, I don't think you can have all the sequins and the long skinny corded microphone and the ASPCA PSA at the end without people thinking of Bob Barker.

Time will truly tell, but I think CBS made the right choice.

The Check Game: The price of the prize does not matter; the amount you write down does not matter; if you play the Check Game, you lose!
You walk off stage wondering why you didn't get to play Plinko.

You know. I never really thought about this "no Bob Barker" problem. This is not good. Good thing my memory of Price is Right also has the additional treat of the local VFW. After Price is Right was over, in my glory days as a five year old, my grandpa took me to his local chapter. He would sit me down on a bar stool...order me up a Shirley Temple and expose my young mind to hilarious old man humor with his buddies. Ahh. Makes me feel all hyper all over again!
