Spangles

This is one of the pictures the book designer considered for the cover of Drink to the Lasses. It's me on the night of my first dance (described in horrid, searing detail in Chapter Thirteen.) Look at me. I'm nineteen. I haven't had a job yet (well, the desk-intensive, suck-the-soul kind, anyway.) I've only been driving for two and a half years. I have no idea who Ashley Simpson is. Fortunate girl.

Sometimes I miss her. Sometimes I want to slap her. Mostly I want to take her aside and have a very serious talk about bangs.

I still have this dress. It's in a closet, but my designated non-active closet, the same one that holds a garment bag, my high school jacket, four Halloween costumes, and the water heater. I guess a little piece of me still wants her around... or maybe she never left.

those heels are around here somehwere at: mb@blondechampagne.com

I must know. Was it an SYR?

Hey, I don't get to go to dances in college. Stupid public universities.

"I must know. Was it an SYR?"

But of course! I'm wearing a black dress, aren't I?

(Actually, it was an SYS-- a Glee Club "Screw Your Sectionmate." But close enough.)

Hey MB -
No matter how hard you try, she'll never leave. She may go into hiding for a while and you think you just might be rid of her....and lo & behold she reappears in all her spangles & hairspray (usually at a most inopportune moment)

Cherish her. She is what made you who you are today!

Well said, Ophelia!

For the uninformed,

What is an SYR?

Oh, for that you have to read the book! ;)

Hey you sexy thing! So glad to hear about your book -- congratulations! I'm sorry I missed you when you were here in NYC. I work mere blocks from where you were and should have made the trip to say hello, but I've been up to my ears in work. Maybe next time but, sadly, we'll have to skip the HoJos in Times Square -- they closed the place down. :o(

I feel so cool that I am already in the know! It only cost my parents $100,000 for me to be privvy to that information.

Concidering it was an all girls college, hopefully it wasn't

"Screw your Roommate"

Just kidding!

I have a confession to make....

I have NEVER, EVER ordered anything off of the internet. I know intellectually that it would be fine, but I'm always a little wary. Congrats, Soon as I have a couple extra diniros, YOUR BOOK will be the VERY FIRST ITEM I will buy off of this newfangled internet-a-majig.

;)

Wow. I'm so very honored. Don't be frightened. The internet loves YOU!

(And, yes-- it's a "Screw Your Roommate." But not in the way you're thinking. The "less formal" dances were named as such since so many blind dates went on, hence the title.)
