Media Whore Alert

Friendboy Andy will appear on MSNBC today at 3:10 AND 4:10 this afternoon, not to mention on CNN Showbiz Tonight. Topic: Survivor and its tasteful attempt to ignite a total race war.

UPDATE It is a good thing that Friendboy Andy is my friend, because only for the likes of him would I subject myself to twenty minutes of Tucker Carlson and his aggressively fluffy hair. Andy appeared later than scheduled, because first the audience had to be alerted to the fact that flash flooding had stricken Scottsdale, tragically dampening two Chevrolets and a golf course. Tucker was On The Story, however:

TUCKER: So, what's under that water?

REPORTER: The... ground.

There then followed up-to-the-nanosecond coverage of the JonBonet Ramsey "suspect" and his plane leaving... somewhere to go... somewhere else. At one point MSNBC had a split screen of the slightly soggy putting green and the Child Molester Express, lest we miss any important developments. And then? Andy!

He far outshone the flooded car, and his hair looked amazing, which of course is the important thing. At one point, however, he described most of the cast of Survivor as being "as white as you and me," which, given Tucker's solid 8 on the George Hamilton Scary Fake-Bake Scale, is negotiable. But he did not attempt to lean forward and slap Tucker through the monitor, which is infinitely more than I could have done.

Let the madness begin. Didn't we learn enough with the OVER coverage of the OJ trial? Do we really, Really, REALLY need and/or want to know what John Mark Karr had for breakfast five years ago when he stopped at a Waffle House on the outskirts of Poughkeepsie? For the LOVE, people... can we consider giving just a little LESS attention to the crazies of the world?

Okay. I'm done with my rant. At least until I watch the news again.

You know, cbell, until your post I never really realized how wonderful the name "Poughkeepsie" looks. It must be one of those words that I'd only heard but never seen in print before. Nice.

One of my students had a laughing fit this week when she discovered just how funny the word "Deuteronomy" can sound when one stretches out the first syllable. Try it. But shield your head from the inevitable lightning bolts first.

MB!!!

Whilst thumbing thru my new copy of JANE magazine, I come upon page 64, where there is a review of a little known book by the name of '20 something essays, by 20 something writers'. I chuckled, and thought, "Hey, I'd be cool if they mention MB" I laughed out loud when I realized that you are one of only 2 of the authors mentioned by name.

Ahem,
"While there are the requisite stories on internet obsession and cubicle angst, there are also ones that have that "How did ya read my mind?" feeling. In "The Waltz," Mary Beth Ellis details what it feels like to have OCD, and in "Sex and the Sickbed," Jennifer Glaser writes her thoughts as her boyfriend dies of leukemia."

Just wanted to pass that on, with a resounding Congratulations!!!!

OMG, Tamar, thank you SO MUCH for letting me know! I had no idea Jane had reviewed! That totally made my week. I'm going to go tell the other kids :)

Which is the date on the JANE mag? I want to buy it now.

It's the September issue, with Eva Longoria on the cover. They have a wry sense of humor...kinda reminds me of a blogger that I kinda know ;)

It is the 'anti-Cosmo', I think you might like it. I FREAKED when I read the review. Congrats again! :)

Thanks, tamar. I met one of the editors at a conference once and she seemed cool :) Not as cool as YOU, of course...

LOL! Flattery gets you EVERYwhere!

Seriously, I just think it's cool that I 'know' you. You are incredibly sweet and down to earth, and I am glad to count you as a cyber-friend.

Oh mb, promise me you will remember the "little people" when your fame overshadows all you survey.

Jane, eh? I might need to look into that mag. Not sure if it will fit in with my Psychology Today collection but it is, at least, a diversion.

Thanks, jenib.

I am just now realizing the awesome irony of this being brought to light in a post entitled "Media Whore Alert..."

If it helps, It's entirely YOUR fault that besides this wonderful site, I am also addicted to RealityBlurred. Seem's appropriate to comment under FriendBoy Andy's post. ;)
