Spinning

This will come as a shock to all of you, but I am, in fact, incompetent. I have converted a DVD of my reading to a computer-y format--I believe that is the proper term--but I can't find anywhere to host these huge files so that you can go and be horrified. Suggestions?

Thank you for your patience with these short, largely spazoid posts during finals week. Off to hand out some well-earned F-'s.

UPDATE As of 4:07 PM today, the kindly and talented Michael The Reader seems to have the situation-- and now the DVD--well in hand. Thanks for all your suggestions, except for the one that was obscene. Y'all are my homeys.

did you try youtube.com?

I've used www.yousendit.com in the past. It can be a bit tempermental, but more importantly, it's free. However, there are limits to how long your file will be available (7 days or 20 something views, whichever comes first). Instead of sending the link to individual emails, you can send it to yourself, then post the link on your blog. After the file has expired, it's automatically deleted, and you can always post it again if we exceed the alloted number of views.

I'm pretty sure you can do it through www.photobucket.com as well. They allow up to 1 GB of space per account, so it would depend on how big your files are. It's free too, so that's a bonus.

If it's a super-huge file, then try megaupload.com.

I think the first would be to compress the file, lower the resolution to 640X480 or somethin like that, maybe find a program that converts the dvd y-file into something like mpeg-4, wmv, or something that can be opened by Quicktime or Realplayer.

Whoever said porn websites weren't educational?? :-)

Completely off-topic, but I know you're a big Star Wars fan, so I was wondering if you saw the news that the original, unaltered versions of Episodes IV-VI were being released on DVD September 12th. Once again, Han will shoot first.

And I'm really only competent to upload photographs, so no help on the video question...

I had to reply to ElGeneralissimo on BustedHalo.com. I couldn't help myself. I tried, really, I tried.

*sigh*

MB: What "computer-y format" did you convert your video to? And using what process?

Thanks for the help, guys, but don't feel the need to feed the troll. I have a distinct feeling it's an ex-boyfriend of mine who has yet to get a life.

CARRIE YOU HAD BETTER NOT BE LYING TO ME.

Carrie said...

Totally not lying to you. It's on the home page at starwars.com, as well as being reported on Yahoo. I would never, EVER lie about SW.

Anon,
What is the BH site?

Anonymous said...

BH -- duh Busted Halo.

Sorry, I was having a moment of slowness there.

racheal:

BH stands for Busted Halo.

Carrie, I too will be buying the SW DVDs.

Despite the fact that I already own three versions of the original trilogy (pre-THX on VHS, Special Edition on VHS, and Special Edition on DVD), I know this incarnation will be gracing my shelves on September 12th. Because it's perfectly logical to own four versions of the same movies. It's official--Star Wars has eaten my brain...although that was probably confirmed when I put "JEDI" on my license plates.

Hey thatsnutty, I know MB is hot, but do you know something I don't about her being a mama??? Her sister is a mama, but if MB is a mama, I had nothing to do with it!! Don't you remember the extremely personal information revealed about us on the Glenn Beck program?!
