Hi! enjoyed the article :)

Yay, another PMSNBC piece! I was waiting for the backstory on the ratings booklet.

I do the same thing when people ask what I do at night or on weekends...
What I say: Cleaning, jogging.
What I actually do: Watch a lot of TV.

PS - Loved the article

Well, well, Lady Kenobi! It's your old buddy Strat, from Blog It. I see you have not lost your incisive eye and rapier-like needle! That was a very funny piece on the Nielsens. Makes me long for my TV brick.

Take care and great work. I'm sure I'll drop back by.

Ah, old friends and new-- welcome, strat! Hope you stick around for a while :)

Thanks to all for going to read.

I actually laughed out loud for a full 15 seconds at the mashed potatoes comment - a rare feat. Eeexcellent work. I wish someone would let me be a Nielson diarist; I might even surpass your formidable prowess in perjury.

Cool beans, MB. Awesome article.

I got an Arbitron book (radio ratings) one time. First thing I did was call my favorite radiostation ("The World-famous KROQ")and weaseled a T-shirt out of them. But I was pretty honest and conscientous about the whole thing.
What, you think you can bribe me with a lousy T-shirt? You think I'm that cheap?!

Lol... to say you have a way with words is an understatement, MB. It's the images and the twists that really make me laugh hard enough to expel food particles from my nose.

It's a good thing Nielsen doesn't measure why you watch certain shows, otherwise they'd have to change Olympic Skating into more of a "Death Match 2000" kind of event...

Always the fan,
Dantelope

I loved the article! I had the dubious honor of being a Nielsen family (ha! I was single and in college!!) years ago. I was brutally honest about what I watched, which may be the reason why The Real World is still on television.

How does one get to freelance for MSNBC? I freelance now, but I'm always looking for opportunities.

Not sure about the path to MSNBC contributor, but this has certainly worked for many people:

Phase 1: Underpants
Phase 2: ????
Phase 3: Profits!

Crickey, it's the Croc Hunter!

More concerning than your tendency to lie about your television habits is that dantelope had food particles in his nose! While just about everyone has had milk come out their nose at one point, I've never had anything else remotely food-like in my nose.

Woe be he who gets in the path of a dantelopic sneeze post-supper. The cleaner will never believe you.

Dantelope - You should have waited to publish any reference to expelling food from your nose for your own blog. It would have made a great post and it would have saved JTP's grandmother any undo stress (because we know she reads this stuff).

dantelope,
Tried that, but the granny panties didn't go over well. Shucks!

Lol. Your Phase II is all messed up. Perhaps you should be marketing TO the grannies?

Another plausible explanation is that Granny Panties are simply disgusting. Especially -- and I mean Especially -- if they belong to your Granny.
