Ask Josh the Pilot, Volume IV: Mimes, McDonald's, My Brothers, and My Car

What happens when you eject a mime from the cockpit of a moving F-15?

If the mime is really good, s/he mimes the parachute opening and floats safely to earth. If the mime sucks, s/he yells LOOK OUT BELOW, I'M COMING THROUGH!!!

When will you start stopping at McDonald's on road trips?

I will gladly stop at McDonald's on road trips as long as MB doesn't ask to stop five minutes after we first get on the interstate.

Got any brothers?

Seriously, brothers...in the Colorado area?

I have two brothers. One is my identical twin, Jeremiah, younger by 10 minutes, and the other is the youngest of the family, Daniel, three years behind me. My sister Esther is between my brothers. Yes, I am the oldest of four.

TLIG and Lizzy, I know what you're thinking. I sound so awesome, my brothers must be quite a catch too. Well... perhaps... but there's some complications. First off, they're not in Colorado. Jeremiah is here in Florida living with our parents and me. Daniel is in Afghanistan with the Army and won't be back for quite a while. The other complication is if you're looking for a guy like me, you won't find what you're looking for in my brothers. They're great in their own way, but they are waaay different from me. Yes, Jeremiah is my twin, and we look very much alike, but our appearances is where the similarities end. With Daniel, he's the youngest versus me, the firstborn... I'll leave you to figure that one out.

Any hope of you getting a new vehicle in the near future?

What's wrong with Victor, Jr.?

(Note from MB: "Victor, Jr" is what he's named his car. That is so lame. Only massive losers name their cars.)

Yay, more questions :)

JTP - LOL!! Bravo on the mime response! Naturally, I would have liked to hear how they mime a splat at the bottom, too... but I'll take what I can get.

Thanks Josh, you're a peach.

"With Daniel, he's the youngest versus me, the firstborn... I'll leave you to figure that one out."

Ha! typical of firstborns: they fail to recognize they served as GUINEA PIGS for their parents ;-)

I of course, am the youngest of my clan. Have two sisters, and as you can understand, I finally got along with them AFTER they married and moved out!

Ummm....My vehicle is Frankie, as in FrankenJeep. Used an Equinox headlight in a 97 Jeep Gr Cherokee. Yeah, I'm a dork! :)

Hang on...I'm laughing too hard at the fact you named your car to comment...

Bwaahaahaa...wait...not done...

Oh NVM, I will get back to you later on that one. You have me stuck on ellipses...(the something omitted is my gales of laughter).

Before I go, a few questions:

Why is it given a guy's name?

Do you lovingly stroke the dash and talk to your car too?

Dear Jenib (and hi to JTP as well)

The dorks are the ones who have NEW CARS and give them names.

People with older cars have two excellent excuses/reasons to name their cars:

1. These cars have character. Humans can't help themselves. anything with character (or a face) with which they interact usually gets a name. (I named my goldfish too when it became apparent that they were not going to die, and it's not like they come when I call.)

2. Older cars usually have Chronic Complaints, any one of which could cause the car to just suddenly die. Giving the car a name and acting like it's alive and thus obliged to Not Die is just part of the zen of older car maintenance.

Sigh-it's just that, from the pictures, the car looks so uncomfortable and "un-pilot" like. Yeah, it's a stereotype but I come from a family that includes fighter pilots and civi flyers and they always seem to have a sports car out on display in the driveway with the "Mom Bomb" hidden in the garage (Mom Bomb is a name normally given to a minivan or station wagon).

Plus, I still want to know why it has a guy's name? Is he worried MB might get jealous or something?

There are implications to the personification of inanimate objets...

Now, I feel inspired to go around my house and name all of my things. I need a name for my PC. Oh, and my kitchen aid gets one, too. I cannot forget the vacuum (oh yeah-that one totally gets a name...something diabolical). Hubby may come home one day to find me having a drink and casual convo with one of them.

My sister named her car Herman, after Herman Munster, because it was such a lovable piece of junk. Ugly as hell, but very trust-worthy (it only broke down when you were within walking range of the house). So I totally agree with Ruby Rose, naming old cars improves the good vibes on these machines. Also, it is very easy to find "character" in cars, if you don't believe me go ask John Lasseter who's going to show Pixar's new masterpiece this summer.

red pill junkie,
I DO recognize I was a guinea pig, which is why there is such a difference between Dan and me.

jenib,
My car is Victor, Jr. because my previous car, a '90 Chevy Astro was named Victor. The name came from the last character on the license plate, V, which is "Victor" in the radio phonetic alphabet. The first character was K, but "Kilo" was just too weird, and "Kurt" didn't fit, and Katie is a girl name. I needed a boy name because an Astro is definitely a boy, i.e. big, stout, and strong. So I went with Victor, and when I got my current car, an '01 Ford Escort ZX2, the tag transferred and I added Junior because it's still a boy car, but not as big. My car's tag is now my initials and college grad year, but the name has stuck.
Regarding comfort and style, it's a very comfortable car, and quite sporty looking and performing, IMHO. I guess those qualities don't come through in the pics. I don't have the money for a more "pilot-looking" car, but even if I did, I probably wouldn't get one because I LIKE not being pulled over every other day.

Heh. I love the new license plate. Josh the Pilot's last initial starts with "H", and immediately following that is the "0" for his grad year, which makes his car...the Ho-mobile.

OMG! Red pill junkie, the first car I named (like a year ago) was a 92 Honda Accord w/ exhaust problems. So driving this loud 'monster' with the H in the middle of the steering wheel, How could you NOT name it Herman. (Just had the thought that it's kinda ironic, going from Herman Munster, to my now FrankenJeep, huh. )
BUT I am the dorkiest of dorks, cause I actually have a picture of myself w/ Herman Munster! Gatlingburg TN, Star Cars Museum, Jumped the rope and snuggled up to my guy! (prior to owning the Honda) I also have a pic of myself on the hood of the General Lee! Oooh Yeahhh!!!
