Vino

I know all of you are asking: Which wine goes best with an Italian Olympics Closing Ceremony?

Since it seems it's one of the few things we can trust Italy with, a nice Pinot will do. Serve in plastic cups salvaged from the bleachers of Notre Dame Stadium and some Shut Up, Costas on a cracker. Make sure it's a vintage from an Olympic year, because today... we play the Brazilians.

Gotta beware the Brazillians!

Don't they make wine too?

MB, why purchase a bottle that comes from across the ocean, when there's a lot of very good wines produced here in the continent. Have you tried chilean or mexican wines? My preferred brand is CASILLERO DEL DIABLO. Of course I'm not really an expert or anything, but I do think they are way better than a lot of wines I have tasted from Spain or France (and WAY cheaper too!).

PS: BTW I was the one who commented about the extinction of the "blonde" gene on the other post, but seems Blogger won't let me put my name if I'm not suscribed to it :-(

I love me some Aussie wine. Normally I drink a good Mondavi, but you just HAVE to have an Italian wine while mocking the clowns from Turin. (And actually, it was the same price as some of the Californian wines. Believe me, wine is a treat around here, and price is very much an object.) But thank you for the suggestion. I've never tried wine from Chile, or Mexico, either, for that matter. (Obvious joke: Should I be near a bathroom when I drink the Mexican wine?)

"Should I be near a bathroom when I drink the Mexican wine?"

uh... I don't get it. Maybe because I'm from Mexico.

Cheers! Or as we say down here... "Arriba, abajo, al centro, y PA'DENTRO!"

There's an (old, ugly) American warning to tourists heading to Mexico: "Don't drink the water!" Because since we are unused to the water, many's the U.S. traveller to come back from Mexico with a bad case of the canNOT-leave-the-toilet-itis.

Oh yeah... THAT saying. Yep! I guess we are pretty resilient people aren't we? Especially we chilangos (inhabitants of Mexico city) since we live in one of the most polluted environments in the world. I always thought NASA should consider sending one of us as the first astronauts to set foot on Mars: they could spare the space suits and save a lot of dough! ;-)

All jokes aside, I do think the somewhat wishful belief that americans are protected by their government, of the maladies that developing countries suffer, being lack of drinking water, shortages of medicines, etc, came down tumbling like a house of cards after Katrina (and 9-11 for that matter). I'm sure those people at the super-dome didn't really mind that the food they were receiving was being cooked and handed down by mexican soldiers (we sent troops to help on the rescue and humane labors); nevertheless, the US military later decided it would be more hygienic that the mexicans didn't handle the food, and they sent them to do other things...

What are some of your fave Aussie wines, MB?

Ooooooooooh. Lindeman's Shiraz and Pinot. Good stuff! It always cracks me up at how Aussies put all these awards and stuff on your wine bottles. You don't have to put your resumes on there! We already think you're cool!

Naaaaah, t'aint a resume thang, for, lo, we come from the land of "nup, cannae really give a wombat's winkle what anyone thinks" ;).

The awardy things is more a "ahhhhhhh yes, a true-blue bouquet" / "uerrrgh, quite possibly brewed in a dingo's rectum" distinguishy guide kind of deal ;).

Seriously, though, some mighty fine taste in wine you have there :). I used to have the great pleasure of living in Adelaide, not too far from the blessed Barossa Valley, where many a fine wine-tasting weekend was spent.

(Now I live in humid Queensland, not too far from Aussie Zoo, where the resulting cries of "Crikey!" reverberate for miles around ;)).

OMG, SERIOUSLY?! Okay, I'm visiting you RIGHT NOW. I've always had a major crush on Australia, and NOW that I know you're near the CROC HUNTER?! Well! There's no stopping me.
